PEACE - Part 1

 I made this painting in Swami Sivasankarianda’s Transforming Emotions Class it’s called PEACE.

I made it to deal with the grief I experienced after my Aunt Betty died of Covid. I wanted to go deep inside myself and find some protection, peace and calm.

Fear - Part 1

 I made this painting in Swami Sivasankarianda’s Transforming Emotions Class it’s called Fear and is paired with the Rosa Parks’ quote, “I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.”

I was feeling bad about my body, future and identity and I put all the fears in the painting. I was dealing with hot flashes and night sweats.  I was noticing my aging.  I didn't want to look anymore.  I was afraid.

Calmness - Part 2

This is my first kickstarter. I usually just make my decks and put them on my Etsy store. I have enjoyed doing it this way instead because it helps me not go out of pocket with printing.

I made this painting after a meditation at Kripalu.  The bliss I often feel in Shavasana.  It’s where I find most of my creative ideas.

Focus - Part 1 of 2

I made the original painting for this card when I was studying with Art 4 All People in Malibu. 

It is called “Focus” and is paired with the Frederick Lenz quote, “Whatever you focus on, you become.  That is the key line, you know. Meditation is the bow and concentration is the arrow.”

Here you see a woman (me) using a bow in arrow in Warrior 2/ Archer Asana. When I am in Warrior 2  I often imagine myself hold a bow and arrow and I focus my attention on what I am hoping to achieve or realize at that moment in my life.

I made the sketch for this digital painting while studying in Malibu with Art 4 All People.  It's still in a sketchbook I have in my shelf.  It's about my dreams for myself.

Generosity - Part 1

 

There is a practice in yoga/meditation called pratipaksha bhavana where you cultivate the opposite. 

Yoga Sutra 2.33:  vitarka-bādhane pratipakṣa-bhāvanam

When disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite [positive] ones should be thought of. This is pratipaksha bhavana (Swami Satchidananda translation). When doubt or wayward thoughts disturb the cultivation of the yamas and niyamas, generate the opposite: a counterforce of thoughts, images, or feelings that have the power to uplift, invigorate, inspire, and steady the mind. This is pratipaksha bhavana (Rev. Jaganath translation).

This is the transformation or opposite of my ANGER painting.  When I used paint and leaned into “anger” searching for the  the opposite emotion I discovered  generosity and service.

I made the preliminary painting for this ANGER card during the Transforming Emotions class led by Swami Sivasankariananda.  

I was in reaction to the murder of George Floyd. All I wanted to do was scream. I was so angry. In this self portrait I am yelling.
